Miniature Tigers’ “Mia Pharaoh” Will Make You Shake Your Booty

Recently, one of my favorite bands, Miniature Tigers, put out a new album entitled “Mia Pharaoh.” Naturally, I had to check it out. Lately, all of the newer releases from the bands and artists I’m into have been pretty solid records, so I went into this one expecting the same. While this is a super solid album, it’s definitely not what I expected sound-wise.

I’m used to Miniature Tigers being a quirky, pseudo-psychedelic, indie-rock band. What I got was electro-indie-dance-pop a la Passion Pit. Don’t get me wrong, I love Passion Pit, but never in a million years would I ever put on a Miniature Tigers album expecting anything close to that sound. So at first I was confused and a little annoyed that another one of my favorite bands decided to become something completely different without telling me, but once I calmed down, I realized my head was bobbing along with the music, and my feet were trying to make me dance, even though I was sitting.

The new sound is actually SUPER FUCKING GOOD!! So delicious in my ears! Just about every track makes you want to move your feet to the rhythm, bounce around with the bass-line, and shake your booty all over the dance floor. The exceptions being the slow jams the band sprinkled in. They even step back into that classic style past listeners would be accustomed to hearing for a little bit on a few tracks, still keeping it super-dancey,  of course. That made me love this record even more. This album could pretty much provide all the music for a high school dance on it’s own. No other CD’s would be needed. You’ve got the foot shuffling fun songs, the slow hug up on your lady songs, and the mid-tempo time for a juice break songs all right there. There’s even a super slow piano tune at the end to tell you it’s all over and you need to find your parents outside of the gym.

All in all, this album is phenomenal. It’s definitely something you should check out if you like to dance. Even if you don’t (I don’t like to dance at all. I think it makes me look foolish and stupid, which is something I do enough on my own without having to dance) you’ll probably really enjoy the whole album. Seriously. Check it out. You’ll like it. I promise. I mean, just watch the video for “Sex on the Regular” down there. It’s ridiculous.
