Gyro for Android

Gyro is a mobile time-killer in which you rotate a three sectioned colored disc to “neutralize viruses” by matching colored globes to their corresponding disc section. Each section of the centered disc has separate levels of health, and catching the wrong colored ball will take health away based on its size. Sounds simple, right? It is. The simplicity of this game is astounding. And then, of course, panic mode sets in. Suddenly, similar colored balls are flying in from different sides of the screen, while different colored balls come zooming in next to each other in a seemingly planned, yet chaotic fashion.

I was surprised to see power ups in this game, but they fit in wonderfully. Power ups range from a shield (to prevent taking damage from catching a ball with the wrong section), a health restore, rotating “defender drones” that zap any spheres they come in contact with, and quite a few others. There are also a pair of unlockables. One of which is the “8-bit sound set” which gives the game a delightfully retro feel, and the other is “Pro Mode” which ramps up the difficulty by starting you at ten thousand points and a multiplier of x25. Also built-in is a colorblind mode, online leaderboards, Facebook and Swarm integration to keep track of friends’ scores, as well as “friends’ scores” indicators, which are represented in-game by a shrinking circle around the wheel. All in all, Gyro is a blast to play, quick to pick up, and a challenge to master.
