0Get Ready 3DS! Here Comes Fire Emblem: Awakening
This Monday marks the release of the highly anticipated Fire Emblem: Awakening for the Nintendo 3DS. There is no game I want to play more right now, and I am tough out of luck with no 3DS. So, I want everyone in possession of a 3DS aware of this momentous occasion.
Why should you care about Fire Emblem: Awakening? Right now it is the 3rd highest rated 3DS game on Metacritic and it isn’t even released in America yet. If you are unfamiliar with Fire Emblem let me say that there has not been a release that has ended in disappointment. Even Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn for the Wii was a big success and a great game.
It would be pretty difficult for Nintendo to ruin such an iconic franchise. If you’re someone familiar with turn based tactical role-playing games (Such as Final Fantasy’s Tactics series) then you’ll know the usual mechanics Intelligent Systems implements with each iteration. Luckily Fire Emblem continues to give us a fresh story and a few new mechanics, even if the gameplay is more or less the same with better graphics.
What’s new in Awakening? You can make your own playable character through what they call the Avatar system. You can also create and customize your own weapons like in Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn. These customizational features are awesome, for me the more customization the better. On top of that, your characters can have children after developing emotional ties with one another and you can then use that child to battle. I wonder if you can have a child army… I digress.
One big option Awakening has made available is the choice to play Classic Mode, where your characters die permanently if they die in battle, or Casual Mode, where you keep your character even if they die in battle. I think I’ll be playing solely on Classic Mode, but I can see why someone would want to use Casual, and I wouldn’t be opposed to giving it a try for one of the various playthroughs I will inevitably start.
It is amazing Nintendo took this long to release such a clear success for the 3DS. The Escapist said, “A game worth buying a 3DS for.” I couldn’t agree more. So all you 3DS owners, please, if you buy one game this year for that hunk of electronics Nintendo calls a gaming console make it Fire Emblem: Awakening, releasing this Monday February 4th.
Did I forget to mention how awesome the Fire Emblem 3DS bundle is?
