Deadly Premonition: The Director’s Cut on Steam Greenlight

Deadly Premonition is probably the most love-or-hate game of this console generation. Thanks to this listing on Steam Greenlight, it looks like PC players will finally get the chance to check it out. It should include the special “Director’s Cut” features from the recent PS3 re-release, plus some extra PC-exclusive DLC.
This cult-classic budget title certainly earned its fame. Deadly Premonition is equal parts Twin Peaks, Resident Evil 4 and Shenmue. The story follows FBI Special Agent Francis “York” Morgan, hot on the trail of a serial killer that’s been targeting young women and leaving red-colored seeds behind. York arrives in a small midwestern American town that bares a striking similarity to Twin Peaks–full of quirky characters, interesting subplots and a bucket of intrigue. During your investigation you can drive around, smoking cigarettes and talking to yourself about how much you love the movie Tremors. Or blow off all your major appointments and spend the day peeking into private citizens’ windows. Or just pound down pots of fortune-telling coffee. It’s unique.

It’s also janky as hell. The combat is, admittedly, sole-crushingly boring. Even the biggest Deadly Premonition advocates suggest playing it on the easiest difficulty just to plow through the shooty bits.
As a game it can be weak in spots, but in total seriousness, Deadly Premonition is the best written video game I’ve ever played. This title is easily in my top 5 for this generation, but I totally understand how someone would absolutely loathe it.
Consider yourself properly hyped / warned.
