Silly Flash Game – Escape the Red Giant
With the Steam Summer Sale still happening right this very moment, it’s crazy to think I have spent the majority of my free time these past few days playing a browser-based Flash game, but here we are. Escape the Red Giant is pretty straightforward: an expanding star is hot on your heels and you’ve got to hop your way through an asteroid field (using the left/right arrow keys and space bar) to escape your fiery fate.
Hop from asteroid to asteroid, eating candy bars and avoiding doom.
Level progression, as it were, is marked by changing background images (planets, floating houses, satellites), as well as the expanding star moving faster toward you. After your inevitable demise your stats readout includes vertical distance traveled and fastest speed, along with the obligatory score.
I don’t know if it’s the equal parts soothing/scary background music, the calm countenance of our little space hopper, or the fact there are chocolate bars in outer space, but boy does this game have its hooks in me. What I do know is I’m going to finish up this post quick so I can go back to playing and try to beat my high score.
