4Siglemic breaks Super Mario 64 world record
Once a game has been beaten into submission, the benchmark to greatness for that game is no longer mere completion. The greatest is determined by those who can complete it the quickest. I suppose that’s why speedruns have always fascinated me. It’s not just beating the game; it’s mastering the game and becoming one with it. Some zen-type shit. Only the best can accomplish these mind-boggling feats of precision and acute attention to detail. Yesterday, on August 5th, while most of us plebeians slept, the great Siglemic made a world record attempt to collect all 120 stars in Super Mario 64 as fast as he could – and succeeded! He managed to beat the game in 1:46:23 despite making a lot of time-costing mistakes towards the end.
Even after setting the world record (again) Siglemic isn’t satisfied with the results. He’s streaming himself playing Super Mario 64 for 12 hours a day, every day in August, and each day he’s going to make another world record attempt. He’s setting his next goal at 1:44:00 and, after watching his stream yesterday, I think he’ll make the cut.
You can watch his stream HERE.
