1Zombie Dice will eat your Brains!!
I’m kind of a sucker for anything involving zombies. I also have an affinity for strange board, card, and dice games. So that pretty much makes Zombie Dice my kryptonite. Like, there’s no way I could not love this game, even without playing it, I would still be in love with it. I would just creep on it, facebook-stalk it, ask its friends if it ever talks about me… It would probably need to take out a restraining order, and that’s before I even open the tube, dump out the dice, and actually play a game.
The basic idea of the game is this: You are a zombie. You are hungry for brains. Hey look! There are people nearby!
The objective of the game is to be the first to collect 13 brains. Yep, apparently it only takes 13 brains to put a zombie in a food coma. To gather these brains, you’re given a set of 13 dice (6 green, 4 yellow, and 3 red). These dice represent your human prey. Each die has special markings instead of numbers. There are footprints, brains, and classic comic book style explosions (I like to call them KAPOW!’s) that symbolize shotgun blasts. Each color indicates how easy that particular person is to kill, and subsequently has a different number of each symbol. Green dice have 3 brains, 2 footprints, and 1 shotgun blast. Yellow have 2 of everything. Red have 3 shotgun blasts, 2 footprints, and 1 brain.
You play by rolling three randomly chosen dice at a time. Any dice that show a brain are put to the side and kept as potential points. Any dice that shows a KAPOW! also get put aside. If you get 3 of them, you’re dead and you forfeit any brains you collected during your turn. Dice that show footprints get rerolled. You continue to roll 3 random dice at a time until you decide to stop rolling and keep the brains you’ve got, or you die.
Each game lasts anywhere from 5 minutes to half an hour (depending on the number of people and how quickly they roll) so you can easily play half a dozen games in one sitting and not get bored with it. And since it takes no skill at all, a new player can learn in seconds, and someone who’s played a million times has no advantage. This makes it ideal for parties of any kind. That, and the fact that it’s fun as hell.
