0Welcome to Siberia!
This new show Siberia? I’m pretty stoked to see more of it.
The show takes 16 people from all over the world are drops them in the middle of a giant forest in Siberia—though “giant forest in Siberia” seems kind of redundant, huh? Then they are basically told: “Remember how we said you were going on a wilderness vacation? We lied. We lied directly to your faces, and we lied hard. Those bags you packed full of compasses and warm clothes and pocketknives and lighters and canteens? We’re keeping them. You have to make it on your own. There are no rules. You just have to survive. There’s a small village east of here. Go find it. That’s where you’re living until winter is over.”
Oh, and there are two more catches. First of all, this place may or may not be haunted or something. The people who originally settled here mysteriously went missing a couple hundred years ago and no one ever found their remains. Catch number two: there’s only room for 14 people, so the last two to arrive there go home tonight.
When the contestants reach this village, they find everything they need to survive as far as tools and shelter and firewoodexcept for food. Then the “host” of the show comes in and says: “Follow me. I have a surprise.” He brings them to a field where there’s this giant strong-box. He warns that every once in a while, this thing will blast a siren. When the contestants hear that, they’ll have to come open the box to receive “special things that will help them not die.” The first item it gives is, more or less, a page out of an encyclopedia about Red Cap Mushrooms. It doesn’t actually give them the mushrooms, though. That would be ridiculous. Instead, there’s a note that practically reads: “Yo, these things are around here somewhere,” is totally enough. Except it takes them two days to find any! And even then, they find maybe ten mushrooms!
Also, a cameraman and one of the contestants are inexplicably attacked in the woods. The contestant suffers “fatal wounds.” So I guess it all worked out, yeah?
YAY! I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE MORE!
You can see the Full Episode Preview of Siberia at Hulu.com, NBC.com, or on Comcast OnDemand. There are probably more places, too, but these are the only ones I personally know of. The series premiere is Monday, July 1st.
