WE WANT TO BELIEVE
Space Heater is a Dark Sci-FI pop band from Providence RI. It features Maiden X on Vocals and Joe-Lou on an Analog Drum machine. Their live shows consist of costumes, skits, custom lights and live generated video collage. They recently released their first album. Here’s what friends had to say:
Space Heater does not sound like a band so much as a soundtrack to something bigger which does not exist in a definite way. Listening to their recordings (and, especially, seeing their live shows), one gets the impression of so much more going on than what is on the surface. Few performance groups spark the observer’s imagination, opting instead to impress the artists’ specific visions upon the recipient. Not so with Space Heater! “We Want to Believe” gives a very clear context and character from the outset, but it leaves so much undefined that it makes the listener wonder exactly what else could be portrayed by the thudding, swirling beats and the ambiguous yet passionately-delivered utterances. Each song fits coherently with each other, often flowing unconsciously like a hyperspace flight past unknown solar systems, but the music contains more than enough variety to keep the ear stimulated and curious throughout. A most intriguing pleasure.

Space Heater We Want To Believe is a journey into another universe where music stretches beyond our imagination. The album starts with Ambient Pressure, and within moments it does the exact opposite of it’s namesake by warming your body with cosmic rays of sounds and lyrics that are familiar, but otherworldly. As the album progresses, as does the sound, with the texture ranging from deep, distorted deep space notes to pitched shifting alien beeps. By the time the final song Laniakea finishes, there hasn’t been a predictable moment, which shows the dedication by both singer and beat-maker their desire to create a unique listening experience. We Want To Believe is a tour of a dimension and its planets that only skims the surface of how deep the shadows run. The lyrics are soaked in recollection and reflection, heartbreak and horror. Mucoid bass trudges along with transmission blips and beeps, creating a galactic dichotomy.

I listened to this album in an air conditioned room and felt a sense of warmth emanating from my headphones. Those who say space is empty are wrong. Maiden X’s haunting vocals truly fill the void, and Joe-Lou is the master of warp drive technology. I hope someday this album is played over the stereo systems of space-faring vehicles as they carry humanity to the stars and beyond.(…)
