Bag of Bones
A heart wrenching, nail-biting, sitting on the edge of your seat tale that involves losing loved ones, haunted pasts, innocent children caught in the crossfire, romance, and a house that comes alive to terrorize you. Seriously, how could this not be my favorite book? Stephen King’s Bag of Bones is nothing like he’s ever written before. Unlike his other novels, which are all centrally based on horror/paranormal stories, this book could (and should) be found in the romance section of any bookstore.
Mike Noonan, a 40-year old bestselling novelist, has been suffering four long years of writers block ever since his wife Johanna died. He decides to spend a few months at their summer cottage “Sara Laughs,” which he hasn’t stepped a foot in since he and Johanna vacationed there together. His goal is to try and get some writing done to relieve the pressure he’s receiving from his agent. What he doesn’t expect to find is lingering ghosts who write him cryptic messages and memories of Johanna that tug on your heart strings.
Nor does he anticipate to ever be in love again, but after meeting the adorable 3 year old Kyra Devore and her young and beautiful widowed mother Mattie, Mike can’t help but fall for them and take on their biggest problem. Kyra’s crazy millionaire grandfather will do anything (and I mean ANYTHING – including attempted murder) to gain custody of his granddaughter.
Bag of Bones keeps you rapidly turning the pages to answer the questions that have been burning in your mind since the first chapter. It’s perfect not only for King fans, but also for normal people who enjoy normal ghost stories. It has you jumping at every creaky sound, shivering at every phantom whisper, and terrifies you into being too afraid to go to the bathroom by yourself. But even if you don’t like being scared, you’re bound to still keep on reading just for the love story.

Ahhhh I love you for posting this! This was the first Stephen King book I have ever read and still one of my favorites because it actually scared the shit out of me at certain points, and its rare that movies ever have that effect on me. Have you seen the miniseries? Its only 2 episodes, and it stars Pierce Brosnan as Mr. Noonan and I thought it was pretty good, not as scary but still an above average adaptation.
I haven’t seen it yet, although some people have told me it’s really awesome. I actually have it in my instant queue on Netflix; just gotta get around to watching it at some point lol
